Virtual Mary D. Ball

From beaching to boating, hiking to biking, there are tons of ways to have a ball on Block Island. But there’s one Ball (note the capital B) that outshines them all for its festive family-friendly atmosphere and its importance to local islanders. It’s the annual Mary D. Ball, the premier fundraiser for the Mary D. Fund, started by Block Island’s charitable force of nature Mary Donnelly, Block Island nurse for more than 50 years until she retired in 2013 at age 86.

Lobsters and clams and mussels, oh my. And chowder and corn on the cob and sausage, too. It wouldn't be Labor Day on Block Island without the annual Lion's Club Clambake on Saturday, September 5th starting at 1 pm. It all takes place under a tent on the grounds of the charming and historic Narragansett Inn, where you'll enjoy sweeping views of the ocean and the boats bobbing in New Harbor.

Virtual 45th Annual Run Around the Block
Center Rd New Shoreham New Shoreham
This may be the longest run around a block on record. That’s because the particular block in question is actually Block Island, a little piece of paradise just 7 miles long and 3 miles wide off the coast of Rhode Island. And you’ll see most of its beauty — rolling meadows, stone walls, sparkling ponds, towering cliffs —during the Run Around the Block, a 9.3 mile (15K) journey around this stunning island where more than 45% of the area is conservation land.
