2024 Block Island Half marathon

This half marathon will begin and end at the Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion. The beginning of the race heads north in a flat stretch followed by a gentle uplift to some steeper hills and turns. Runners will see the Great Salt Pond, beach dunes, The North Lighthouse and much more.

Theatrical Performance on the Life of Herman Melville: On Saturday, October 19th, the Friends of the Library is sponsoring a theatrical performance, which is free and open to the public, entitled Sailing Towards My Father from 4-5pm at the Island Free Library. This one-man play written & directed by Carl A. Rossi and performed by Stephen Collins, chronicles Herman Melville’s life from youth to old age, concentrating on his evolution as a writer and his complex relations with God, his parents and siblings, his wife and children, and Nathanial Hawthorne. Please join us for this intense & insightful portrayal!!
