There’s something about an island that attracts artists and craftspeople, and Block Island is no different. Maybe it’s the quality of the light and maybe it’s the more laid-back lifestyle, but the charms of the island find expression in the works created here.
If you’d like to take home an artistic reminder of beautiful Block Island, one of the best spots to browse and buy takes place outside of the Block Island Historical Society. Several times each summer, from 9 am to 1 pm, the lawn becomes a showplace and marketplace for members of the Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild. Choose among paintings, photographs, sculpture, jewelry, fabric arts, candles, and more. All of the items are handmade by local artists and would make a perfect keepsake for yourself or a gift for the folks back home.
This year, the dates are set for June 29, July 13, July 27, August 10, August 24, September 7, and October 11. There’s no charge for admission to the Fair.
